Ah, the ever-demanding public - give us an inch and we think we're a ruler.

Coincidentally, I stumbled on this quote in my morning web-news-delium:

We are more ready to try the untried when what we do is inconsequential. Hence the fact that many inventions had their birth as toys.
 - Eric Hoffer

Man, you asked for free standing bipedal robots, they gave you freestanding bipedal robots.

You wanted robots that could do Kung Fu, Okie Dokie, Kung Fu Robots.

You asked for robots that could run, WHAT DID THEY DO!?! They gave you running robots.

NOW, you are telling me you want 'em BIGGER? Jebus people, Patience! Patience I say!

They can only grow 'em so fast!

Walking is a shit ton harder than wheeling, which is why Asimo, the biggest one so far, occasionally meets with an accident.

Wait a couple years and I bet there will be walking androids running around all over the place.

*Then* you'll ask why they don't do the dusting as well as Mom used to. Sigh.

So I gotta question. Keep in mind I'm a scientist and not an engineer, and even then this may seem to be a stupid question:

Why are robots small? Is it the cost of larger servos? I mean they're basically toy-kit sized.

And maybe I'm coming at this with the imprint of science-fiction-movie robots, but I keep waiting on a life-size (!) robot kit.

Am I just silly? I'm silly, aren't I?
