Blinky Bots Bushwhack Beantown
February 1st, 2007 by The Head RotorHere’s a close-up of the horrifying “hoax device” that brought Boston to a standstill. FEAR THE SCARY LEDZ OF TERROR, PEOPLEZ!
Who are the villains here? The PR hacks (hackers?) who stuck this on a bridge, or the Keystone Kops who overreacted? Note to Homeland Security: if you are this easy to pwn, you are worse than useless. How long before anything with visible circuitry becomes de-facto illegal?

[...] Just in case anyone was wondering, certain US cities are still mighty panicky.Witness (witless?) Boston, MA. Several "suspicious devices" were reported around the city Wednesday morning. Mobilize the bomb squad! Call Homeland Security! The cops blew two of them up before they realized that they’re part of a guerrilla advertising campaign for a television show on the Cartoon Network. The ads feature a character from Aqua Teen Hunger Force called a Moominite. Flipping the bird.jpg" style="border-style: solid; border-width: 1px; margin: 5px; padding: 2px;" />The two guys who placed the devices (basically lightbrites) have been arrested and charged with "placing a hoax device and disorderly conduct". You got it, sports fans! Devise and implement a creative advertising campaign and you too could be in jail.CBC and others are reporting that they duo "were released on bond Thursday, and didn’t seem to take matters seriously". How can you take something this moronic seriously? Some paranoid nut-bar panicked and now these guys are going to pay the price. We certainly can’t admit that those who "serve and protect" might make mistakes. Oh, no.I wonder how the citizens of Boston feel knowing that their armed protectors blew $750,000 defending them from advertising. Especially when the same ads have been in 10 other cites for two to three weeks!Turner said once it learned of the Boston problem around 5 p.m. on Wednesday, the company informed police of similar ads that had been planted in 10 cities for two to three weeks: Boston, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta, Seattle, Portland, Ore., Austin, Texas, San Francisco and Philadelphia.Boston is vowing to hold Turner responsible for the cost. Sigh. Via Boingboing and WWdNUPDATE: Suicide Bots has a pic of the scary, scary device with the lights on … Ooooooh. [...]
