Messing Around In The Shop
January 21st, 2007 by SBMister Robotics being the gallivanty sort that he is, he’s been working like a mofo in the shop to get ready for Techfest, “Asia’s Largest Technology Festival” for which he departs at Stupid O’Clock tomorrow morning.
I was in the shop a few days ago fussing with his projects, and I had my crappy little camera phone with me.
Here is a tiny photo blog, Violet Blue style*, of the stuff Mr. Robotics is working on. If you are in Mumbai and have a hankering to see 60-lb robots smack into each other at high speed, drop him a line!
*No I am not naked. Sorry.

Here is the mere-smear skeleton of a polycarbonate hockey-bot. It’s business in back, party (with pointy polycarb cowcatchers) in front.
Notice the cunning way we are using the horizontal mill to suspend the wheels so we can affix sides and infrastructure. Gosh, do we know how to properly use tools, or what.
I was putting in little Lexan(tm)(r)(c)(don’t sue me) bricks for stability. This involves drilling. A lot of drilling.

Note the shiny and stylish metal shavings.

Now, we Chamfer! Chamfering at the bit, this one! I am the chamferion! I can chamfer days! I cham- oh never mind.

Here I am preparing to tap. I love tapping. I don’t love it as much as Mr. Stephen Felk, who competed with Voltronic in one of those TV shows. We have fond memories of Mr. Felk hand tapping approximately 8,000 holes in his bots structure to reduce weight. That’s dedication. Or madness. Or both, it being robots.
Here is a picture of me and a few of my favorite things:

And thusly concludes our little photo essay, thank you for playing, keep your hands and feet inside the vehicle until we come to a complete stop.
Souvenirs and snack bar is to the right, we know you have a cholice when you surf the internet and we thank you for making that choice Suicidebots.
